Cochabamba, February 26, 2026. – As part of a coordination effort, Asociación Civil Armonía today inaugurated the workshop “Strengthening Competencies and Intergovernmental Coordination for the Protection of the Southern Slope of Tunari National Park.” The meeting brings together technical teams from the Autonomous Municipal Governments of the Kanata Metropolitan Region and representatives of the National Service of Protected Areas (SERNAP) to establish common management criteria for this natural heritage of Cochabamba.
Regional Leadership and Metropolitan Management: The workshop takes a local and strategic approach for the department. Its main objective is to define a technical roadmap that will enable the metropolitan municipalities sharing jurisdiction over the southern slope to exercise their respective competencies in accordance with national regulations. “Protecting Tunari cannot be achieved through isolated efforts; it requires a cohesive metropolitan vision,” was emphasized during the opening session.
Technical Development: Guided by Armonía and a team of specialists in autonomous governance and protected area management, the working groups will analyze the distribution of responsibilities and territorial planning. The active participation of SERNAP will help ensure that municipal strategies are aligned with the protected area’s management plans, while seeking joint solutions to urban pressure and environmental risks in the area.
This two-day workshop represents an important step toward securing water recharge and ecological stability in the Kanata Metropolitan Region, strengthening the commitment of local stakeholders to Cochabamba’s future.
