Tjalle Boorsma, Conservation Program Director at Armonía, presented during the Annual Conference of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) on the conservation programs for the Blue-throated Macaw (Ara glaucogularis), Red-fronted Macaw (Ara rubrogenys) and Horned Curassow (Pauxi unicornis). This event takes place from September 12 to September 16, 2023, in Helsinki, located in southern Finland.

His presentation was part of the “Parrot TAG”, Galliformes TAG and Conservation Committee. During the Parrot TAG meeting Arne Schulze, the Executive Director of the Zoological Society for the Conservation of Species and Populations (ZGAP) spoke about the Red-fronted Macaw being chosen as the “Zoo Animal of the Year” in Europe.

This prestigious title is awarded annually as part of the species protection campaign “Zoo Animal of the Year”, promoted by ZGAP with the support of the German Society for Animal Parks and the Association of Zoological Gardens.

“There was a good combination of putting Bolivia’s most threatened birds in the spotlight among so many experts participating at  this event”, said Boorsma. We would like to thank Bioparc, Birdpark Marlow and Simon Bruslund for making this trip to Helsinki possible.
