Orinoco Goose
Scientific name: Oressachen jubatus
Spanish name: Ganso del Orinoco
Status: Near Threatened (IUCN red list of endangered species)
Habitat and behaviour:
Rare to locally fairly common on banks and sanbars of forested rivers,on lakes, in seasonally flooded savannas, such as Barba Azul Nature Reserve. Seasonally migrates from Amazonian breeding grounds to foothill lakes in the south. The Llanos de Moxos in Bolivia is the most important non-breeding ground of this species.
The Orinocco Goose population is globally decreasing due to hunting pressure and habitat loss.
